Officially the People's Republic of China, this country is located in East Asia and it is the most populated country in the entire world. It is governed by the Communist Party, with jurisdiction over 22 provinces, and the controversial 23rd province of Taiwan is governed under the Republic of China, a separate political entity but still considered part of China's rule by many. China's history dates back to ancient civilization and is believed to be one of the oldest. Conflicts concerning China's rule and leadership occurred since its ancient history, until 1949 when the People's Republic of China was formed.

China's population is more than 1.3 billion total people.

China's national anthem is March of the Volunteers. It was written by the poet Tian Han in 1935. The composer was Nie Er.
There are approximately 1,000 surviving giant panda's, most of them living in the Sichuan Province. This animal is China's national treasure.
There are more bird species in China than anywhere else in the world.
China is home to the world's oldest tree species, the gingko. It is believed to date back approximately 160 million years ago, to the Jurassic Age.
China is made up of deserts, plains, mountains and high plateaus. China is home to the world's highest mountain - Mount Qomolangma. It reaches 29,035 feet.
Most of China's religious followers are Buddhists. Other religions followed in China include Christianity, Islam and Taoism.
Since 1949, the life expectancy in China has risen by 35 years, to just over 71 years, due to improved health care.
The economy in China has continued to grow since 1978 due to reforms in economic policies.
There are more executions in China than in all the other countries combined.
There are approximately 100,000 mass protests annually in China.
Approximately 50% of the counterfeit goods distributed throughout the world come from China.
Because of water pollution, approximately 700 million people in China consume water that is contaminated each day.
China was host to the Olympics in 2008. China won 51 gold medals, with a total of 100 medals in all.
The Chinese food we buy in fast food take-out restaurants is not really Chinese cuisine. It has been adapted to tastes of the western world.
Popular Chinese food includes pork, soybeans, wheat, vegetables, rice, noodles, sauces. and seasonings.
